The Imperial Fleet at Armageddon consisted of a combination of the fleet already stationed there, those ships provided by the local systems such as Voss and the arrival of the Adeptus Astartes Fleets sent by the various Space Marine Chapters called to Armageddon to assist in its defence.

IMPERIAL 'APOCALYPSE' CLASS BATTLESHIP

One of the more unusual features of Epic Armageddon is the ability to include fleet elements as part of your Epic ground force. These are basically the orbiting Cruisers and naval assets that have been tasked with providing both a base for landing operations and if requested orbital bombardment. As a base of operations for my fledgling Imperial Guard force I have selected the rather grand presence of an Apocalypse class Battleship. Manufactured at the Voss shipyards as revealed by its distinctively shaped prow, the Apocalypse class is ideal to include in both your Epic Armageddon Guard force and as the flagship in any Armageddon Battlefleet.

To achieve the distinctive striped patterning which is common in Armageddon fleet vessels, I first undercoated the model black. Over this I then progressively dry brushed bestial brown, bubonic brown, light khaki and finally bleached bone. For the striping I dry brushed a 50/50 mix of scorched brown and bestial brown in a stippled pattern across the hull. Once finished the engines, weapons and superstructure details were picked out in boltgun metal and highlighted with mithril silver. The prow was painted with a mix of scab red and bestial brown, which I then worked up into a blood red highlight. For the Imperial Eagle on the prow I picked out any detail with shining gold over which I applied a brown ink wash, before highlighting with a gold and silver mix.

The only other task after that was to touch up any areas of the stand in black where any of the dry brushing had over run and that was the ship complete. To further bolster my newly formed Armageddon Fleet and provide some alternatives for my Epic force I have added a pair of Cruisers, which pretty much takes care of the starting capital ships. A few squadrons of Falchion class escorts and Cobra’s should help fill the force out some more, but that will have to wait for another day.
