ORK 'HAMMER' CLASS BATTLE KROOZER "DETHDEALA"
The 'Hammer' class
Battle Kroozers of Ghazghkull's fleet are true behemoths of
capital ships. Bristling with gun batteries and launch bays, the
Hammers massive superstructure houses entire Warbands of Orks
and all of the means required to drop them onto a planets
surface. During Ghazghkull's second assault on Armageddon it was
these vast flagships that led the invasion, each delivering tens
of thousands of Orks and armoured vehicles.
Painting the "Dethdeala"
is very easy and like most Gothic ships is mostly dry brushing
and ink washes. I started by undercoating the model with a black
primer over which I dry brushed Codex Grey and then Fortress
Grey. For the engines I mixed equal quantities of Tin Bitz and
Brazen Brass which were then dry brushed onto the rear of the
ship. The 'teeth' along the front prow were then dry brushed
with Boltgun Metal. Once finished the entire model was then
given a watered down wash of brown and black ink.
The other colours such
as the head, gun batteries and prow were then painted with a mix
of Dark Angels Green and Snot Green or Scab Red with Blood Red
depending on which part I was painting. The Red was highlighted
with neat Blood Red and the Head was then given a light Dry
Brush of neat Snot Green before adding another coat of ink wash;
this time green and brown ink.
All that left was to
repaint the stand black where any paint had wandered and add
details such as view ports or glyphs in Skull White. Add some
stage I will no doubt go back and add a few more details as well
as add a few celestial phenomena to the base. Until then it is
serving quite ably as both the flagship for my Ork Fleet and a
base of operations for my Ork armies invasion.
Other elements of the Ork fleet I will cover in a future
article when I get the chance, but for the moment I think this
will serve just nicely in my Epic Armageddon Ork force.
