Creating gaming boards and terrain for Epic scale games can be as simple or as complex as you like, ranging from a simple textured and painted board or texture mat, to a fully detailed war zone. I have included this section in 'Conflict Armageddon' to show a few examples of different gaming terrain and include a few tips on how to make it. Newer articles will be added from time to time so keep an eye on What's New to stay up-to-date. Have fun.

INTRODUCTION

Having a painted army is just one part of the hobby, being able to game over a great looking board for me is what really fires my interest, especially in Epic scale where the scope for modelling terrain is so much greater. With terrain being such a big part of the hobby for me I felt it only appropriate that I dedicate a section on the site to purely look at constructing and painting terrain for Epic Armageddon. The initial few articles will probably look a bit spartan, but fear not as this section will grow throughout the year to look at a whole host of terrain projects from the simplest of objective markers and scatter scenery, to full blown campaign boards. So without further ado, onto the terrain.

Gaming Aids - Making Objectives
Following on from my article on making Blast Markers, I take a look at how creating Objective Markers for Epic Armageddon can add even more character to a game. Whether they be a simple terrain feature, or a narrative piece, such as a crashed aircraft or War Engine, objectives are cheap and easy to make. In this article I show a few examples and suggest ideas for other simple objectives.

Urban - Imperial Hive City Gaming Boards
These sections of an 8'x4' urban board were ones I originally constructed for an Epic 40,000 demonstration game at UK Games Day. Since then they have been tweeked and expanded to the full sized boards seen today. With over half the boards consisting of a densely built up urban environment games can be challenging due to the limited lines of sight along the streets. I will be featuring these boards later in the year when they are further changed to have an all new detailed curtain wall. | Find out more...|
Gaming Aids - Making your own Blast Markers
Blast Markers are an integral part of gaming in Epic Armageddon as they indicate how many units have been suppressed by enemy fire and when a formation becomes 'broken'. There are lots of ways you can indicate blast markers from using dice, glass beads to even the card ones that came with the last edition of Epic. Better still is to model your own which can be easier than you think. In this article I show you how to make a variation of the well known 'wire wool' markers using a few plastic infantry bases and some textured sand. | Find out more...|
Modelling - To Base or Not to Base?
Basing vehicles has turned out to be quite a contentious subject amongst some players I have come to discover. Admittedly it is definitely not going to be to everyone's taste, which is fine, I don't like anchovies, but at the same time I don't get outraged when I see somebody else putting them on their pizza (unless its mine of course!). If you are wondering what its all about the read on and I'll highlight the pro's and con's of basing vehicles for those who want to know. The rest of you can get back to your anchovies *shudders* | Find out more...|
