GHAZGHKULL'S ORKS - GARGANTS

No Ork army would be
complete without at least one Gargant (more preferably),
so it was a natural choice to include the first of what will be
a number of Gargants featured here early on. As this is the
first one I have chosen to leave it unchanged from what is in
the box and paint it in a simple scheme, other more unusual
variants will follow at a later date.
Painting da Gargant.
In
what should be a familiar scheme by now, I initially dry brushed
the entire model with a mix of Tin Bitz, Brazen Brass and in
this case Scorched Brown to give it a rusted grimy base colour.
As the model is much larger than any of the other Ork vehicles,
I then added streaks of Boltgun Metal and Chainmail Silver
randomly over any large panels of armour or banding. A final
light dry brush of Boltgun then brought out any edge details and
rivets. Before painting the armour panels I then gave the entire
model a thin wash of watered down brown ink.
For the red
panels randomly dotted around the model I used a basecoat of
mixed Bestial Brown and Scab Red. Over this I painted a thin
50/50 mix of Blood Red and Terracotta which I then highlighted
by adding more Blood Red to the mix. Details such as the teeth
on the head and glyphs were then painted with neat Skull White
before adding a few decals to the gun barrels from an Ork
transfer sheet, although these could just as easily be painted
on.
For the base I
used a plastic Titan base to which I added an assortment of
rubble from the Epic Infantry base sprue and bits of plastic
card I had lying around. The entire base was then covered with a
sand and gravel mix and dry brushed Graveyard Earth and Bleached
Bone. There is no limit to how you can paint or convert Gargants
and over the coming months I will cover both other models,
conversions and colour schemes. Until then, happy stomping.
