The Starship Troopers miniature game has been something of a
revelation for me in 2005 as to be honest it caught me
completely by surprise. I have long been a fan of Robert
Heinlein’s novel and especially the 1997 film adaptation, so
it was a pleasant surprise to discover Mongoose Publishing
had secured the rights to produce a miniatures game based on
Starship Troopers. It was even more of a surprise to
discover that not only were the game rules (produced by
former GW supremo Andy Chambers) highly engaging and well
designed, but that Mongoose was backing it up with a lively
product range of miniatures and supplementary material.

All in all, it
didn’t take much convincing for me to pick up a copy of the
boxed set and break out the paints. Unsurprisingly one thing
led to another and before long as I was looking at the start
of both an Arachnid army and a Mobile Infantry force, the
game having firmly got me hooked. As Starship Troopers is
currently eating substantially into my current painting
time, it seemed sensible to create its own section on
Dropship as I imagine over the coming months I will be
filling it with all manner of Mobile Infantry and Arachnid
nasties. If you feel you have what it takes to become a
citizen of the Federation, read on. |

The Mobile Infantry - At the heart of humanities
armed forces are the men and women of the Mobile
Infantry. Indoctrinated into Federation service, the
Mobile Infantry (MI), along with SICON and the Fleet are
Earth’s first and last line of defence against alien
aggressors.

The Arachnids – Needing little in the way of
introduction if you have read the book, or seen the
film, these are the self-same multi-limbed insect
monstrosities seen in both the Paul Verhoeven adaptation
and Roughnecks Chronicles CGI series. From hopper to
tanker, warrior to plasma and brain bug, more mandibles,
legs and scything claws than you could shake a can of
raid at. |
